Dear Friends,
The Department of Neurosurgery at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi started the "Experimental Microneurosurgery Laboratory" in 1971 through the efforts of Prof. P.N. Tandon and Prof. A.K Banerji ( Emeritus Professors, Department of Neurosurgery). The training laboratory was expanded and renovated in 2000 into a full fledged training facility for training and experimental research work of M.Ch Neurosurgery Residents of the department of Neurosurgery and trained /trainee Neurosurgeons from India and abroad. The training imparted was aimed at development of Neurosurgical skills and techniques.
The laboratory has been funded in 2007 by FIST infrastructure fund, DST, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India and in 2009 by Indo-German collaboration, DBT, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India set up Neurosurgery Skills Training Facility and Experimental Laboratory. The lab has facilities like operating microscope, pneumatic drill, microsurgical instruments, image intensifier and neuroendoscope. Animal experiments and cadaver part dissection can be carried out at any given time. The facility has the institute permission, so any visiting fellow in the department of neurosurgery can also work in the lab. Institutional Animal Ethics Committee has awarded permission for any trainee/trained neurosurgeon from India / abroad for micro-vascular or micro-neural anastomosis in small lab animals.
